A Decent Society

"What is a decent society?  A decent society is one whose institutions do not humiliate people.  A civilized society is one whose members do not humiliate one another."
                                                                      Avishai Margalit, A Decent Society

As self-appointed exemplars of civilization at its best, we in the United States, though there are many nations worse than ours,  have a long way to go before we can declare with honest self-awareness that we are a decent and civilized people.

  4. This is a flagrant miscarriage of justice here in finding Doctor Ona Colasante guilty, the jury selected in finding the doctor guilty was no doubt inept, unqualified and biased and certainly not a jury of her peers, the Federal Government should be ashamed in their reckless prosecution of Doctor Colasante, she should win an appeal and all charges dropped,I hope a smarter more fair judges finds her innocent, certainly she was railroaded and the juries finding of her guilt were a travesty of justice,Robert Castoro

  5. I do not believe any of the accusations made against dr. Colasante. She was a very conscientious doctor and and highly intelligent. When a drug I was taking was with crawled because of the side effects peeing life-threatening she called me personally to tell me to stop taking it. When I had a blood test that came back with an area of concern she sent me handwritten postcard about it. And when I was sick very sick with the flu she called to see how I was doing personally. She really cared for her patients. Many doctors are no longer accepting Medicare patients because of the complicated coding they use for billing. My doctor is set up with it and so he's retiring. I can understand why dr. Colasante wanted an apology because there was no justification in traumatising her patients and her staff carrying guns. I also not happy that all of my records were lost in this mess. I drive a truck it cost me more than she allegedly collected fraudulently. I have not been able to find out where she is serving her sentence or the length of it and I doubt if she has access to a computer. The cost of the trial entering car through incarcination far exceeds the alleged amount that she allegedly obtained fraudulently. I cannot believe that a jury would find her guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt.
